BALLROOM

5. CONTESTANTS MUST UTILIZE THE FLOOR
Couples are allowed (but not required), a maximum of 2 breaks. Each break shall not be longer than 2 measures. (based on a 4/4 beat pattern)
Couples are allowed (but not required), a maximum of 2 dips, lifts, drags, leverage moves & leans, or drops. These moves can be done in any combination, but only 2 are allowed.
Couples are allowed 1 sit spin (but not required)
D.S.B. is a smooth/rythmic dance
The Social should be exhibited for a minimum of 2 measures
Dips include- any move when the follower is below the leaders waist.
Drags- any moving of partner across the floor while in a leverage move or lean.
Leverage move or lean- anytime couples are using each other’s weight as a means of supporting one another in a forward, side, or backwards motion.
Drops- when a follower is below the leaders knees including splits.
Sit Spin- when the follower is seated in a one leg spin, and spirals upward to finish.
Social- a closed embrace consisting of 1 long and 2 short steps as its basis.
Lifts-both feet are off the ground at the same time

Appearance: Classy appearance head to toe
Musicality: Dancing beginning on the down beat. How a dancer hears the music they are dancing to, and how they interpret it into the moves they make.
Technique: Control of balance and weight, hand
connection and posture
Choreography: Order of movements and
transitions, intimate connection
Presentation: Create atmosphere of excitement,

THIS CATEGORY INCLUDES ANY DANCE STYLE THE CONTESTANT CHOOSES.
From Swing dances such as: (West and East Coast, Bop, Hustle, all forms including 3 and 4 count, and Latin Hustle, D.C. Hand Dancing, Lindy, Whip, Push, Jitterbug, Jamaica, Push, Philly Bop, Salsa, Carolina Shag and Carolina 2 Step, DFW and all forms of Swing Out) to Tango, Rumba and more
Can be danced at times side to side…back to back…front to back... front to front. "DANCE CAN BEGIN IN OPEN, CLOSED OR SEMI OPEN POSITION". Separation no more than 3 measures. Danced to 4/4 music. Shines (Footwork) shall not take away from dance form.

Music must be turned in by March 17th via email to versatileproductions6@gmail.com Failure to submit music by the due date will result in the DJ providing the contestants music selection. NO CD'S WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Music must be free of "VULGAR" Or "PROFANE" language. Failure to adhere to the music rules, music selection will be rejected!!!!!

Walkin'

AT ALL TIMES
The Walkin’ category consists of a man and woman moving around the floor in a “constant stroll” both chest to chest and/or thigh to thigh (depending on one’s particular style). Walkin’ is also performed at a distance where the male lead pushes the woman on a recognizable downbeat, as he moves her effortlessly around the floor. The Walkers category will be judged by other classic walkers who understand the foundation and technical elements of the dance, as determined by their judge’s questionnaire sheet.

GrAystone

AT ALL TIMES
GrAystone is a smooth fluid social dance done in closed embrace consisting of 1 long and 2 short steps as its basis.
The GrAystone category consists of the couple circling the floor at least one time in a counter clockwise direction.
The couple must maintain contact at all times. Chop movement can be only 2 measures. A spin out and in movement can be used to begin or end the dance. The couple should display linear, horizontal and circular movements. The couple must also dance in the center of floor to display originality style, creativity, etc after completing counter clockwise movement.
Classy attire is encourage to compliment the dance.
GrAystone style Ballroom dance should display elegance of a grand ballroom style.
"JUDGING CRITERIA"
Musicality: Timing with music. How a dancer hears the music they are dancing to, and how they interpret it into the moves they make.
Interpretation: Sequence of steps and choreography
Authenticity: Style, long steps, short steps and closed embrace
Progression: Movement around dance floor
In Sync: Two people move as one, togetherness and fluid movement

Beginners should have no more than 3 years dance time in this dance. No dips, leans, lifts, leverage moves, drags or drops are allowed. Both feet must stay on the floor at all times.
